Robert E. Howard est un nouvelliste et romancier américain né le 22 janvier 1906 à Peaster (Texas) et mort le 11 juin 1936 à Cross Plains (Texas). Il est considéré, avec J. R. R. Tolkien (Le Seigneur des anneaux) et H. P. Lovecraft (le mythe de Cthulhu) comme l'un des pères de la littérature de fantasy moderne. Il est surtout l’inventeur de l’heroic fantasy, avec les aventures de son héros Conan le Cimmérien.
