Matteo Scalera est un artiste italien né à Parma. Il commence sa carrière en 1982 avec la publication chez Image Comics d'une série en quatre numéros Hyperkinetic. Pour Image il travaillera aussi sur les séries Dynamo 5 et PopGun. Scalera fut aussi l'un des douze gagnants du concours mondial de "recherche de talents" organisé par Marvel. En 2010 il commence à travailler pour "la maison des idées" sur le personnage de Deadpool. Il signe alors des épisodes des séries Deadpool Team-Up, Deadpool Corps et Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth. Scalera œuvre aussi sur Outcast pour Boom! Studios et, avec Rick Remender, a finalisé la série Secret Avengers pour Marvel.
