Description

Toshio Maeda (前田俊夫) sensei is a cartoonist and scriptwriter of erotic-style manga (hentai). Between the 1980s and 1990s, he created many works, some of which were also turned into successful anime, such as The Blue Girl, Urotsukidoji and Demon Beast.
Maeda is universally known as the inventor of the ‘tentacle rape’, a ploy against the censorship that forbade the depiction of genitals in manga.
Hailed as ‘the most influential artist of erotic manga in Japan’, his masterpiece ‘Urotsukidoji’ has been described as the foundation for the entire erotic-grotesque genre of Japanese anime, considered the Akira of the erotic genre.
As an eccentric character who was proud of his role in the popular imagination, Maeda declared that he would like ‘The Master of Tentacles’ to be written on his tombstone.

I had the immense pleasure of meeting Master Maeda in Sicily at Etna Comics in 2022. I was literally captivated by the beauty of his drawings and overwhelmed by his friendly and quirky personality!

Arigato Maeda Sensei!
