This page is from The Blood of the Virgin interlude that originally appeared in Kramers Ergot #10, was then published on it's own as Crickets Color Special #1 in an oversized format, and will be in the upcoming Blood of the Virgin book being published by Pantheon in May of 2023.

Joe our protagonist pulls off the stunt remembers his line but he forgot to wear pads for the jump, maybe because he was too busy thinking about how he was double crossed by Bert, who gets a spray of Joe's blood in his face when he takes off Joe's shoe. Then after the gag Harkham gives us a reflective Joe who will now be forever changed by what has happened to him.

I spoke with Harkham about this story and he told me that Joe is partially based on Raoul Walsh and I didn't remember until after we spoke that Walsh actually played John Wilkes Booth in D. W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation, and this is even after I brought up that Griffith use to have a studio near where we were which is now where the Vista Theatre stands. Also worth mentioning that supposedly Joe is also partially based on cartoonist Kevin Huizenga.
