Robert Rocca was born in the area of Lyon in a family of Italian refugees. At the age of 14 he decided to become a comic artist, using the pen name Bob Roc. After World War II, he worked as an artist for comic books like 'Fantax', 'Targa', 'Marco Polo', and 'Brick le Corsaire', published by Editions du Siècle and Pierre Mouchot. He later left the field and took on several odd jobs, such as truck-driver, mover and typewriter repairer. He eventually settled in Saint Mathieu de Tréviers and began a career as an international recognised sculptor.
