Description
This is a very rare piece. It is the first time I have seen original art by Japanese superstar manga-ka Junji Ito outside of the artist's holdings. I have seen exhibitions of his pages in Italy, San Diego and Angouleme and have seen a few dedications he has done but never a finished piece in the wild. It is my understanding that this art was used as part of the title page for the fourth chapter of Tomie, one of his many horror masterpieces. It is not in the published English edition but perhaps showed up in earlier Japanese printings. Regardless, published or not, I am super happy to be adding this one to my collection. On the back are some notes and when translated it seems as if the piece was used in lieu of a greeting card with a joke excusing the use of used paper for the note. I suspect it was a gift of original art to someone and the note was intended to be a light-hearted greeting.
