The Samurai is based on the TV drama that caused a big ninja boom among Japanese children in the late 1950s.
Taku Horie is undeniably a classic mangaka master. His most famous manga is "Yaguruma Kennosuke" with its unique take on storytelling like a gun that won't run out of bullets no matter how much you shoot.
Taku Horie drew with a surreal finesse close to Shigeru Sugiura, but he also had the ability to handle fairly realistic images.
He often drew in large frames such as one page or spread, but also outside the frame, which was innovative for its time.
