Description
Original first page from Powstanie: Za dzień, za dwa, a key graphic novel bridging Polish history and francophone readers. The scenario by Marzena Sowa was first published in French-speaking countries (Belgium, Switzerland, France) as L’Insurrection: Avant l’orage (Dupuis, 2014).
Gawronkiewicz depicts occupied Warsaw just before the uprising, combining realistic architecture with subtly distorted perspectives to convey tension. The muted, cool color palette sets a mood of uncertainty. Two panels show a young girl hanging upside down on a playground frame — a personal touch, modeled on the artist’s daughter, juxtaposing childhood innocence against the looming drama.
The page works as a quiet prologue: the city as a stage for impending events, the child symbolizing fleeting normality, and the artist’s personal gesture adding emotional depth.
