Description
I painted this in 1995 for my own collection. I remember taking newspapers and tearing them into pieces. My wife and i sat on the floor and carefully pasted them down over the face. We left areas for the eyes and hand to be painted. Earlier, at U Cerneho Vola, I had met and photographed a sculptor by the name of Pepe, this picture is based on him. He had taken me to his studio near Prague Castle to show me his work. But we couldn’t get the door opened. Eventually we squeezed in and found the door to be blocked by a absolute cascade of broken television sets. I don’t recall seeing anything but broken tv sets piled up against the walls. Perhaps he used the cathode ray tubes for sonething in his work or perhaps that cascade was his work. Many years later Think Magazine did an interview with me and requested the painting for the cover. The painting was used a second time in the comicbook 100% BIODEGRADABLE. Oil on wood with collaged newspaper.
