Commentaire
I’ve loved the Metabarons saga ever since the first issue came out.
Gimenez’s marvellous illustrations – dynamic and three-dimensional, with exuberant and captivating colouring – were something I’d rarely had the chance to admire up to that point.
The plot, too, helped make this work an absolute must-read for a science fiction fan like myself.
As the narrative unfolded, this double-page spread immediately made a huge impression on me, both for its visual composition and for the narrative twist in its left-hand section. I was so struck by the twist in the second panel that, looking back, if I ever had to identify a single page that encapsulated the wonder of the Metabaroni saga, I would without a doubt always have pointed to this one.
Having both stages of the artwork available allows one to appreciate just how much artistry Gimenèz brings to the colouring process, refining and bringing out the details of the characters and the landscape.
