Flying Hiroyuki-kun

Comment

Tochi Ueyama (1954-) is the head of the Kyushu branch of the Japan Cartoonists Association . His most famous work is 'Cooking Papa', which was also made into an anime.
Originally a teacher, he resigned in 1977 to pursue a career as a mangake
Between 1977 and 1985, he published several 'comic' manga in mangazines such as 'weekly shonen King', 'Just comic' and even 'Baku' and gained a fanbase, recognition and awards for his innovating style.
However, it is not until 1985, with the publication of 'Cooking Papa', that he gained recognition outside of Japan. Cooking Papa aired and was translated in many languages and with 166 volumes published (as of July 21, 2023) it is the most important 'cooking' manga
He calls himself a 'heartwarming manga artist' and although he is now known mainly for his cooking manga, he is still very proud of his older work such as "Flying Hiromi-kun" published in 'Just Comic' (January 1985)
Note : Flying Hiromi-kun was the last manga he published before his 'Cooking Papa' launched his career
