Commentaire

Marina Shirakawa (1940–2000) occupies a unique place within the history of Japanese horror manga. Drawing upon folklore, occult research, speculative science, and supernatural belief, he created works that feel less like conventional horror stories and more like examinations of the unknown. This distinctive approach set him apart from many of his contemporaries and continues to make his work feel remarkably fresh more than fifty years after its publication.

Marina Shirakawa is one of the essentials of Japanese horror manga. As new readers discover the originality and unsettling imagination of his work, his name appears more and more frequently alongside Kazuo Umezu, Shigeru Mizuki, Jirō Tsunoda, Daijirō Morohoshi, and Junji Ito in discussions about the genre's most influential creators !
