Inspired by the round and dynamic style of Calvo, Robert Moreau started out working in the animation field after having studied Fine Arts in his birthtown Rennes. Following some local projects, he left Britton and joined Paul Grimault's studio, where he worked on the animated films 'Le Petit Soldat' and 'La Bergère et le Ramoneur'. In 1951 he met Marijac, who introduced him to the magazine Coq Hardi. He started his work in the printed media with several short stories, gags and game pages. Soon, he also took on cooperations with the Fleurus group, and appeared in magazines like Coeurs Vaillants, Âmes Vaillantes, Fripounet and Marisette ('Touchatou').
