Robert Hugues was born in Nice, where he also studied architecture at the School of Decorative Arts. He began his career at the publishing house Draguignan in 1948. He was a pupil of Bob Leguay, who gave him artistic control over the series 'Tim l'Audace' at the publishing house Artima in the 1960s. He succeeded Robert Giordan as the artist of 'Pilar Santos' in the magazine Olympic (scripts by Bastide). In the 1980s, while working as an architect, he ventured into the world of erotic comics drawing for Sex Bulles, Bédé X and Bédéadult under the pseudonyms Trébor, Colber and Mancini. His best known comics in this genre are 'Cléo', 'Les Confidences de Nado', 'Lydia : Soubrette de Luxe', 'Célia, 15 ans', 'L' institution Marie-Madelaine', and 'Ninon'.
