Mike Butterworth studied drawing but broke into the comic book business as a writer. At the beginning of his career, he worked on several series of western and historical comics for newspapers. Later, he wrote episodes for comic book series, including Vampirella. In 1965, he created The Trigan Empire which made him famous.
