Louis Cance was born in Sansac-de-Marmiesse. After a first publication in L'Écureuil magazine, Cance made his professional debut in Johnny Texas magazine with 'Red Devil' in 1959 and 1960. Between 1965 and 1968, he drew several comics for magazines like Record, Lisette-Nade and Amis-Coop. In 1967, Cance took over the title 'Pif le Chien' series in Pif magazine and continued to work on it until 1990. He alternated on the scenarios with Patrice Valli and Christian Godard.
