Kees Sparreboom is a Dutch portrait painter and cartoonist, who later became a comic artist. He began his career at age 15 as a painter of advertisements for movie theaters for the Rotterdam-based atelier of Leo Mineur. It wasn't until after his retiring from his work as a commercial artist that he fully devoted himself to comics. Earlier, he already made a strip called 'Sparreboompjes' for the annual Sparreboom family magazine. To gain a wider audience, he renamed it to 'Puberaaltjes', and got it published by Phoenix Uitgevers in 1999.
