After several illustrating jobs, he turned to comics in 1980. He started out with several short stories for Charlie Mensuel and Métal Hurlant, mostly on scenarios by Patrick Cothias and Serge le Tendre. Also, Lacaf's work appeared in magazines like Jonas ('La Vie des Saints'), L'Ordinateur de Poche, List, L'Argonaute ('Les Robinsons de l'Aquarius' with Patrick Cothias), Tilt, Le Généraliste and Perlin ('Pierre et Plouf'). With Le Tendre, he produced the album 'Fontainebleau' for Éditions l'Arbre à Images.
