Born in Saône-et-Loire, Cyril Bonin took courses in Fine Arts in Mâcon, then studied Decorative Arts in Strasbourg and finally took a one year DESS course focused on synthesis of images. He worked for a small video production company for two years, while also doing illustration work. He made his comics debut at the publishing house Casterman with the 'Fog' series, a series about the crimes of Jack the Ripper in 19th Century London, which he made in cooperation with writer Roger Seiter from 1999 to 2004.
