Dans les annees 1970, le genial maitre du dessin d'horreur Bernie Wrightson fit des dessins pour un projet (cinematographique?) sur le magicicien d'Oz. Le projet a surement capote. Le style du dessin est tres seventies.
Par ailleurs la facon de tenir la hache nous fait penser a Jenifer ou The black cat. Il ne peut evidemment pas s'agir du projet de Sam Raimi auquel il collabora egalement en 2013 et qui obtint le succes que l'on sait.
Notez bien l'equilibre de la composition avec la ligne qui part de Dorothy a la tete du bucheron en fer blanc et jusqu a la hache. Et l'autre ligne imaginaire qui part de l'arbre penche et descend au pied de l'epouvantail.
Rien n'est laisse au hasard.

About Bernie Wrightson

Bernie Wrightson was one of the best artists of horror comics, with a career spanning from the mid 1960s through the mid 2010s. Nicknamed the "Master of the Macabre", he was at his best when drawing grotesque monsters, vampires, werewolves, cyclopses, mummy's and other eerie creatures. He is praised for his visual storytelling, absurd humor and for his complex and detailed drawing technique, which makes use of a lot of shadow work and shading. Where his artwork is clearly inspired by other horror staples like Frank Frazetta and Graham Ingels, his moody pages also breathe the atmosphere of writers like Charles Baudelaire and Edgar Allan Poe. He has worked extensively for the horror and mystery titles of DC Comics, for which he created 'The Swamp Thing' with writer Len Wein. He is also known for his comic adaptations of classic horror stories and his collaborations with Stephen King. Later in his career, he has done design work for the movie industry. Text (c) Lambiek
