Fantastic large (46cm x 49cm) ink & watercolor Pogo cover painting by the great Walt Kelly (1913-1973). First published as the cover of the Washington Star - The Sunday Star Magazine March 8th 1959...later it was reprinted numerous times in fanzines and books on Kelly/Pogo...
To me this is THE most beautiful Pogo artwork that I have ever seen. The whole gang (Pogo, Albert, Churchy, Owl & Porky) on a boat (called « The Washington Star ») in front of the Washington Monument...the broken Golf club they have fished out of the water is supposed to belong to then US president Dwight D. Eisenhower (34th president, 1953-61), known for his love of the game as well as his temper...
