The first post-war Spirit by Eisner was published on december 23, 1945. With but a few exeptions, he wrote, pencilled and/or inked a stroy every week from that date until August 12, 1951, when he once more relinquished it to his assistants. ( taken from the art of Will Eisner, by Cat Yronwood)

William Erwin Eisner, known as Will Eisner, is an American comic book writer. He was the creator of the Spirit and of the concept of the "graphic novel" and its first applications in the United States, as well as a theorist and editorial director. He is a major figure in 20th-century comics and one of its greatest authors.
