Description
Ostrander and Mandrake revived the 1940s character, breathing new life into him.
He becomes the embodiment of God’s current wrath on Earth, sent to punish sinners for their misdeeds. This is a gritty, dry, and ruthless run that tackles both old and new themes for the superhero genre such as religion, faith, crime, and the meaning of punishment.
The Spectre is an atypical character, blinded by his faith and mission; he does not forgive and punishes criminals sadistically with a macabre and ironic Dantean contrapasso.
In his adventures, he will come to terms with himself, his past, and the silence of God, which is making him reconsider his mission on Earth.
