About Luc Morjaeu

Born in Niel, Luc Morjaeu studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He began his professional career as co-founder of the Mormic studios (together with Dirk Michiels), where he worked on comics series like 'Jacobus en Corneel' and 'Pingu'. He also worked on commercial and advertising assignments ('Samson & Gert' and merchandise for Disney). He co-created the comic adaptation of Godfried Bomans's 'Erik of het Klein Insectenboek', together with Dirk Michiels under the pseudonym Mormic. He also cooperated with Marc Legendre (Ikke) on 'Biebel' and 'Kas'. Luc Morjaeu created his most famous characters, 'Biep en Zwiep', in the early 1990s. After several years of publication in the Jommekekrant and Jommeke holliday specials, the first album appeared in 1999. In 2000, he went to work as the assistant of Jef Nys and Hugo De Sterk on the adventures of 'Jommeke'. He drew several short and longer stories on his own between 2002 and 2005. In addition, Morjaeu produced comics about the Belgian girls group 'Mkids'. Together with Pug, he self-published the album 'Rafke de Raaf' in 2002. In 2005, he succeeded Marc Verhaegen as the lead artist of the 'Suske en Wiske' series. Text (c) Lambiek
