About Louis Cance

Louis Cance was born in Sansac-de-Marmiesse. After a first publication in L'Écureuil magazine, Cance made his professional debut in Johnny Texas magazine with 'Red Devil' in 1959 and 1960. Between 1965 and 1968, he drew several comics for magazines like Record, Lisette-Nade and Amis-Coop. In 1967, Cance took over the title 'Pif le Chien' series in Pif magazine and continued to work on it until 1990. He alternated on the scenarios with Patrice Valli and Christian Godard. While working on Pif, he additionally drew the series 'Pépé Dynamite' from scripts by Claire Godet and published in Formule 1 by Fleurus publishers. In 1973 he launched Hop! magazine, which is considered one of France's best comics information magazines and appears to this day. He made 'Un de la Police Montée' for Amis-Coop between 1973 and 1990. From 1978 until the mid 1980s he was also affiliated with Édi-Monde/Hachette as a scriptwriter for Disney comics. He is the father of illustrator and painter Hubert Cance. Text (c) Lambiek
