Information about Hanco Kolk in the book

Description

Hanco Kolk (born 11 March 1957, Den Helder) is a Dutch cartoonist and comics artist. He is best known for his collaborations with Peter de Wit, with whom he made Gilles de Geus and S1NGLE.
A solo creation by Kolk is his 1992 strip Meccano, which had tremendous success in France. This abstract and stylistic comic set in a fictional country was originally published in L'Echo des Savanes and won Kolk enormous acclaim.

This is the coloring page one of the first story in the first issue of Meccano 1: Beauregard (Aboris B.V.).
Kolk did it on a blue line copy of his art with colored transparent paper. It’s easy to imagine how much thought and effort he put in it choosing the colors and the parts of the panels he covered with one or more layers.
This creates the very special atmosphere most adequate to the slackly lines and the stories in the first book.
It’s almost impossible to find original pages especially from the Meccano books. So it’s quite rare to see even a coloring page by Kolk.
The German comic book serves only as reference to see the printed version.
