Description
It's been mentioned before that César Spadari's early or Argentine period work bore a resemblance to Jean Giraud's Blueberry. Well, I have nothing against Giraud's work. But the character "El Mayor Laguna" was first published in February 1961, as seen in the advertisement in the newspaper "Crítica," one of the most important in Argentina during that golden age of comics in the country. Spadari was 22 years old and already publishing in a nationally circulated newspaper. Jean Giraud's character "Teniente Blueberry" began publication in 1963. Thus, it's clear that Spadari wasn't inspired by Giraud; he might have been inspired, if at all, by Hugo Pratt, with whom he would later share the publishing house "Frontera" and the screenwriter, the great Héctor Germán Oesterheld.
