About Harry North

Harry North is a British comic artist, who started out with Valiant before becoming a regular freelance contributor to Look In in 1971. Among the features he created for this paper were 'On the Buses' (1972), 'Doctor in Charge' (1974), 'Doctor at Sea' (1974), 'Doctor on the Go' (1975-76), 'It's Madness' (1981-83), 'Super Gran' (1985), 'No. 73' (1986-87), 'Gilbert the Alien' (1987) and 'ALF' (1988). He also made appearances in Valentine, Target and the pop music magazine Smash Hits, and he also had a stint on the 'James Bond' newspaper strip in 1981. He is however best known for his work for both the UK and US editions of MAD Magazine, for which he worked from 1976 until the 2000s. Outside of the UK, he published in Heavy Metal (USA), Pilote (France, parodies with René Goscinny and Serge De Béketch) and Zona (Spain). He moved to New York in 2004, where he started working for the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather. He is now represented by the Way Art agency. Text (c) Lambiek
