About Carabal

Pascal Bălan Caracostea was born in Paris into a family of Romanian descent. His father was painter and sculptor Philippe Cara Costea. Carabal was a press illustrator and caricaturist for magafor twenty years. He drew for L'AutoJournal, Le Figaro, Maxi, Le Nouvel Observateur, Afrique Football, VSD Nature and for companies like Auguste Thouard, Thomson and CCF. He made his first comic strip, called 'Calamity Roy' for the rightwing magazine Minute in 1983. At age 40, he created another comic strip, that was inspired by his own children. The series, 'Les Gosses', was published in France in Femme Actuelle for ten years, and in Belgium in Vif l'Express. Albums of the series have been published in the Humour Libre collection by Dupuis since 1997. Unlike other comic book heroes, the two protagonist children have grown older throughout the years.
