About Alfred

Lionel Papagelli, who publishes under the name Alfred, is a self-taught artist who quit his studies to spend all his time making comics. He published his early work in several fanzines and also created his own fanzine, Scalp!, with some friends. In 1995, he founded his own publishing house, Ciel Ether, which enabled him to produce his works and to start a profitable collaboration with scenarist Corbeyran. Besides producing several small albums for Ciel Ether, Alfred and Corbeyran made the absurd and poetic comic 'La Digue' (1998) for Delcourt, as well as the series 'Abraxas' (2000-01). He created the children's series 'Octave' with David Chauvel in 2003 and participated in anthologies like 'Paroles sans Papiers' (2007) and 'Premières Fois' (2008). In 2004 he made an adaptation of the Roland Topor novel 'Café Panique', which was published by Éditions Charrette. Together with Jean-Philippe Peyraud, Alfred has produced the western 'Un Colt qu'on en Finisse' (Treize Étrange, 2001) and the series 'Le Désespoir du Singe' (Delcourt, 2006). In 2002 he began an association with Olivier Ka, with whom he created 'Monsieur Rouge' (Petit à Petit, 2002) and 'Pourquoi j'ai tue Pierre?' (Delcourt, 2006). Also for Delcourt, he made a comic adaptation of the Guillaume Guéraud novel 'Je Mourrai pas gibier' in 2009. Text (c) Lambiek
