Description
Original cover of "Albi d’oro" #31
Mondadori, August 1955
This is the first cover dedicated to the masterpiece parody "L‘Inferno di Topolino", written by Guido Martina and drawn by Angelo Bioletto, after the historic Topolino #7.
The drawing depicts a scene from canto XIII of the story (a beautiful semi-splash by Bioletto) in which Mickey Mouse (Dante Alighieri) and Goofy (Virgil) are attacked by the Harpies, who appear as a bunch of furious Donald Ducks!
As often happens with Disney comic book covers from this period, it is difficult to attribute the work with certainty. Michele Rubino, son of the famous illustrator and comic book artist Antonio Rubino, created many of the Disney comic covers from that time and is most likely the sole author of the piece. However, it’s also possible that Mario Gentilini, the editor of Topolino at the time, made an initial contribution. [Luca Boschi dixit!]
A historic piece of Italian Disney comics for which I sincerely thank my friend Marco.
