About Gin

Jorge Ginès Soteras, better known simply as Gin, began his career in 1954. He started by drawing series like 'Mary-Paz', 'Susi' and 'Miguelin y su perro Tizón' for the magazines Florita and Yumbo. From 1957 onwards he cooperated on magazines like DDT, Pulgarcito, La Risa, Tío Vivo and Can Can. In the early 1960s he started to focus more on illustration. He has illustrated for Lui and Playboy, and he was one of the main artists of L'Infantil. In 1966 Gin began an association with the Macian studios, where he worked in cartoon animation. For the Selecciones Illustradas agency, he drew numerous caricatures and humorous strips. Most notable are 'Nathalie', about a young actrice, and 'Denise' a female version of Davy Crockett. In the 1970s and 1980s he was mainly active for satirical magazines like Barrabas, El Papus and El Jueves, but also for Garibolo. He was the artistic director of El Jueves from 1981 to 1996. He has also illustrated Disney comics for the Scandinavian publisher Gutenberghus in the early 1970s. Text (c) Lambiek
