About Mario Boon

Mario Boon was born in Sint-Truiden. At the age of 17, he self-published an album of penguin gags. After two more penguin books, the series was bought up by publisher Hans Matla from The Hague. Boon then enrolled at the Sint-Lucas School of Arts in Ghent and graduated in illustration and design. He found employment with Studio 100, where he worked for two years, while also doing illustration work for children's books and magazines. By 2000, De Eenhoorn published Boon's first children's book, called 'De Kip van Huub'. For the Flemish department of the publishing house Dupuis, he drew a couple of books about the punkrock band 'X!nk'. He set up the website Pulp de Luxe, which has become a breeding ground for young talent. Through this site, he got in touch with Dutch artist Freek van Haagen, with whom he created the series 'Zornik'. Boon is the artist of the children's gag series 'Mon en Tuur', that was written by Pieter van Oudheusden and published in Het Blad van Vos en Haas and in books by Balloon Books. In addition, Boon has created the webcomic 'Fiona Poppy'. Dark Dragon Books started publishing Boon's apocalyptic trilogy 'Doomsdag 9 11 19', that he makes with writer LeON, in 2014. Text (c) Lambiek
