Idiot Savant (‘We Love You, We Don’t Give a Shit’)

This picture was published in the Czech version of Elle Magazine in 1996 as part of an interview on my work. It later featured in the Czech film ‘Loners’ or (Samotáři) which is now considered a classic of modern Czech film. It was directed by David Ondříček. It is featured 6 minutes into the film, as decoration in a drugs dealers apartment. At that time the figure was seated in a red desert setting, but the paintings edge was snapped off while on set and delivered back to the my studio damaged, I was given no explanation. I then cut the edges off the painting off to clear away the broken area, this reduced it to a much smaller size. I then repainted it with wings, a sea and turbulent sky. This is where it earned it’s title, Idiot Savant, although a better title might have been ‘We Love Your Art, We Hate Your Art’ or ‘We Love You, We Don’t Give a Shit’.
