About Mike Peters

Mike Peters was born as Michael Bartley Peters in St. Louis, Missouri in 1943. He studied Fine Arts at Washington University where he graduated in 1965. He got a job at the art staff of The Chicago Daily News, which was cut short by his army service in Vietnam. After serving as an artist for the Seventh Psychological Operations Group in Okinowa, his mentor Bill Mauldin helped him to get a job as an editorial cartoonist at the Dayton Daily News in 1969. By 1981, Peters received a Pulitzer Prize for Journalism. In 1984, he created his popular newspaper comic strip 'Mother Goose & Grimm'. It has appeared in several book collections, and is syndicated by King Features to over 800 newspapers and it has also been made into a weekly animated TV show by CBS called 'Grimmy' in 1991. 'Mother Goose and Grimm' is also an attraction in Toon Lagoon at the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park. Mike Peters is additionally active as a political cartoonist and lecturer, and is a regular guest on television programs like Good Morning America, The Today Show, MSNBC and CNNfn. He has also made the storyboards for animation projects like 'Night of the Living Fred' by Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks team in 1998. Text (c) Lambiek
