Francisco Solano Lopez and Carlos Sampayo did all in all 6 short stories of the infamous character, Chief Commissioner Evaristo. This tough cop face perfectly depicts the formerly confident superstar boxer and now brooding and hesitant top lawman as he tries to control crime and politics in the turbulent sprawling and ethically murky metropolis of Buenos Aires.

EVARISTO/Shanty Town: The anti-hero Evaristo is looking for a serial killer while a corrupt minister causes a fatal water-shortage – and riots – in the slums. A superb noir mini-masterpiece released 1986 in the American book Deep City with another 5 of all-in-all existing 16 short stories of a cop named Evaristo. Evaristo bends all the rules, fighting for justice and against a corrupt society in a totally repressive time and place.
Solano Lopez, member of the influential Venice Group with Hugo Pratt and Dino Battaglia. He alternated with Pratt on Oesterheld’s legendary Ernie Pike serial. Their most significant collaboration was the explosively political and hugely popular allegorical science fiction thriller El Eternauta. In 1959 López was forced to flee the Junta to Spain.
Carlos Sampayo, poet, critic and author was another outspoken creative Argentinean forced to flee the Junta in the early 1970s, settling in Spain where he and fellow expatriate Solano López produced the compelling anti-hero Evaristo.
The real Evaristo Meneses, born in 1907 was Police Commissioner in late 1950s in Buenos Aires and a living legend in argentina.

A propos de Francisco Solano Lopez
Francisco Solano López, né à Buenos Aires le 26 octobre 1928, et mort dans cette ville le 12 août 2011, est un dessinateur argentin de bande dessinée.Auteur de bandes dessinées à partir de 1953 aux Éditions Abril, il rencontre le scénariste Héctor Oesterheld avec lequel naît une association de grande importance pour la bande dessinée argentine.
Après avoir travaillé ensemble sur des série comme Uma-Uma et Bull Rockett, ils émigrent aux Éditions Frontera, pour laquelle Solano López dessinera Rolo le marchand adoptivo, Amapola nègre, Joe Zonda, Rayon de lune et, surtout, L'Éternaute.
Dans les années soixante, López part pour l'Europe où il travaille pour la maison d'édition anglaise Fleetway. Il rentre en Argentine en 1976, où il reprend L’Éternaute, toujours en collaboration avec Oesterheld ; dans le même temps, il dessine Slot Barr sur les textes de Riccardo Barreiro.
