Dicky le fantastique

Inspired by the round and dynamic style of Calvo, Robert Moreau started out working in the animation field after having studied Fine Arts in his birthtown Rennes. Following some local projects, he left Britton and joined Paul Grimault's studio, where he worked on the animated films 'Le Petit Soldat' and 'La Bergère et le Ramoneur'. In 1951 he met Marijac, who introduced him to the magazine Coq Hardi. He started his work in the printed media with several short stories, gags and game pages. Soon, he also took on cooperations with the Fleurus group, and appeared in magazines like Coeurs Vaillants, Âmes Vaillantes, Fripounet and Marisette ('Touchatou'). Throughout the 1950s, Moreau created comics for Ima, Pierrot, Jocko and Poustiquet ('Jocko'), Lisette and Cricri Journal, as well as the advertising publications Am-stram-gram and Pamcoq. In December 1955, he created the series 'Dicky le Fantastique', for which he drew nearly 3000 pages until 1963, published in several magazines by Del Duca and Editions Mondiales, such as L'Intrépide and a magazine of the same name. His second important character is 'Trompette', a little elephant, whose adventures he created for Femmes d'Aujourd'hui from 1963 to 1976.
