About Nie Chongruie

Nie Chongrui was born in Calcutta, India, in 1943. His family settled in Shangai in 1946 and Beijing in 1953. He worked as a car mecanic since 1964, while developing his drawing skills in his spare time. He became art director of an animation studio in 1979 and also enrolled at the University of Fine Arts in the Chinese capitol in 1984. He subsequently became head of the Beijing-based publishing house Les Beaux-Arts Populaires and embarked on a career as a comic artist. His adaptation of Pu Songling's tale was also published in France as 'Le Fils du Marchand' by Xiao Pan in 2006. He teamed up with French scriptwriter Patrick Marty to create the historical comic series 'Juge Bao' for Les Editions Fei in 2009. Text (c) Lambiek
