About Hanco Kolk

Hanco Kolk is one of Holland's most prominent comic artists, who is praised by both a mainstream comics audience and the more serious art circles. He is best known for his humorous creations in cooperation with Peter de Wit, such as the historical adventure comic 'Gilles de Geus' (1983-2003), the photo comic 'Mannetje en Mannetje' (1988-1995) and the newspaper gag comic 'S1NGLE' (2001), about three girlfriends in search for a partner. The latter two comics were also adapted into TV series. The men also founded the publishing company De Plaatjesmaker. Throughout his career Kolk alternated between various genres, from children's comics to adult comics and from satire to autobiographical works. His most critically acclaimed work is 'Meccano' (1989-2004), a satirical graphic novel about decadent life in a tax-free mini state obviously modelled after Monaco. Kolk is equally renowned for his drawing style, which is very linear and has become more sparse and refined over the years. Text (c) Lambiek
