Description

Wallace is ironic about the 1912 United States presidential election in which the Democratic Party won with Wodrow Wilson due to the split in the Republican Party. On that occasion, Theodore Roosevelt ran with a third new party, The Progressive Party (1912-1920), popularly nicknamed the Bull Moose Party due to its symbol, a moose.
"Tamany tiger" is a jeu de mots between Tasmanian tiger and Tammany Hall, the main local political machine of the Democratic Party at that time.
It is interesting to note that the Tasmanian tiger (whose appearance was completely different from the one depicted in the strip) became extinct in 1936, but in 1912 it was still the object of regular hunting by man.

A short sentence is written on the strip that summarizes its content: “In Africa He Finds Literature a Telling Weapon”.
