One of the more exciting and interesting up and coming cartoonists, Floyd Tangeman takes inspiration from the Underground cartoonists but more in spirit than style. A true original voice in comics.
Along with making his own comics Tangeman is also a prolific organizer and editor on such anthologies as Tinfoil Comix, Cowlick and Jaywalk the latter of which got Tangeman an Ignatz Award nomination for “Outstanding Series.”
To take a quick excerpt from a write up on Cowlick from Austin English quoting another critic (lol):
“The great Italian comics critic Gabriele Di Fazio described what Tangeman does with his anthologies in this way:
...for once we are not dealing with the copy of a copy, whether it’s of Olivier Schrauwen, Jesse Jacobs or Tara Booth. The feeling is that [these artists] have more to do than stay home reading the latest comic from Fantagraphics. And from these pages it comes exactly this, an incredible and unstoppable and irresistible urge to DO.”
This is piece is the cover of Cowlick #1 and was featured in the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery’s Short Run Marathon Art Show alongside artists as diverse as Ron Regé, Jr, Simon Hanselmann, Alex Graham, Caroline Cash, amongst others. This cover is for the Anti - L.A issue, a city I live in.
