A decade into his Conan run, John Buscema was still producing high quality artwork featuring the world's most famous barbarian. This nice example from Conan the Barbarian #146 (1983) shows Conan scaling his way up to a cave entrance on a mountain in search of treasure. When he arrives, Conan is thrilled to see a fortune in gold coins and jewelry. He has an 'Uncle Scrooge' moment while he thinks about how he's going to cash in on his literal good fortune. His first wish is to have a different wench each morning and a different one each evening. That's over 700 wenches per year!

About Conan
Conan was first introduced in the pages of the Weird Tales pulp magazine in 1932. 38 years later he made his way to comic books when Marvel published Conan the Barbarian #1 (1970). Marvel published various Conan titles for 23 years before the license moved to Dark Horse. From 2018-2022 the Conan license returned to Marvel and the company integrated the character into the Marvel Universe for the first time. Titan Comics will be publishing Conan's adventures starting in 2023.

With 90 years in the popular spotlight, Conan now clearly stands as one of the preeminent American adventure heroes and one of the most well-known to the general public. In addition to being a fixture within the comic book medium, it seems Conan is destined to be continually reintroduced in live-action. From the classic movies of the 1980s starring Arnold Schwarzeneggar, to the 2011 incarnation starring Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa as Conan. In 2023, a documentary about the making of the first Conan movie will be coming out. It's only a matter of time until a new movie or streaming series will be announced.
