Classics Illustrated cover: The Forty-Five Guardsmen

Painted cover for Classics Illustrated 113. Unknown artist. The story is based on one of Alexandre Dumas´ historical novels, Les Quarante-Cinq (the last volume in his Valois trilogy). The cover shows a dramatic scene at Antwerp in the 1580s: The destruction of Admiral Joyeuse´ s French war fleet by Dutch/Flemish fireships. Actually one of my favorite Classics Illustrated covers. The additional image shows this painting framed together with some of its companions.
