About Geoff Campion

Geoff Campion was born in Coventry in 1916. He became a tax inspector, but when he was serving in the War as a staff officier in the East India Command, he started contributing cartoons to army magazine Jambo. Back in England, he answered an advertisement for a comic artist by Amalgamated Press in 1948. He got the job, and started out doing humorous cartoons for magazine Knockout. He was soon drafted as artist for a new series of western comics, called Cowboy Comics Library. His artwork was so outstanding that he soon became the best in the genre, although he tried has hand at other genres as well. During the 1950s and 1960s he was the top artist of Fleetway House, drawing for magazines such as Battle Action, Lion, Comet and Sun. Titles he drew were 'Spellbinder', 'Typhoon Tracy', 'Kommando King', 'Tales of the Gold Monkey', 'The Cyclone King' and many more. Text (c) Lambiek
