I first saw Indian cartoonist Anand’s comic in Bubbles Zine #14 when it came out. I was blown away by how much was packed into this 2-page story by a cartoonist who up til that point only 2 comics in. Since then he has released a few more comics under the title of Zoo, his one-man anthology and Bubbles published a collection of stories from Zoo last year to great acclaim being featured on The Comics Journal Yearbook: Best of 2022.
As someone who spends most of their free evenings at repertory theaters in Los Angeles, lots of times right after work to avoid the punishing LA traffic, this particular comic spoke to me in a very specific way. This is a comic I instantly fell in love with and it’s one of those pieces that took quite a long time to procure from the artist who wasn’t sure if they wanted to let it go. It’s nice to know other people seem to love it too as comic historian Ryan Holmberg called this 2-pager a perfect comic.
