Barry Windsor-Smith’s 1978 “Psyche” SOLD

This is from my wife Linda Lessmann Reinhold’s collection. She was once partners with Barry Windsor-Smith during “The Studio” days and has owned it ever since.

I’ve attached two scans. The first is what it looks like as formatted for the original print sold by BWS, and as it was framed, which is a cropped version of the original art. This cropped version is how Barry Windsor-Smith intended it to be seen.
Underneath the mat was more art to be found. That is the other scan of the full art (please see second image).

The full art is on 17” X 24” 2 ply bristol board.

Though it was kept out of direct sunlight, over time the exposed art has somewhat faded. Partially because of one of the mediums used. Linda thinks it was Dr. Martins dyes. Not a permanent medium.
Besides that he used india ink, other watercolor, qouache and colored pencil.
Because of this mix of mediums on the piece there is a very noticeable division between the exposed framed art and what was under the mat.

Still a beautiful piece!
