About Baloo

Baloo is a Belgian comic artist, born as Éric Poelaert in Haine Saint Paul in the Hainaut area. He learned the finer points of the comics profession during evening courses by Antonio Cossu, Gérard Goffaux and Philippe Foerster. Together with his fellow students Jurg, Ludo Borecki, Alain Henriet and Eco, he edited and published the review Brazil. His solo comic 'Two Gentlemen' was published by La Cafetière in 1997. Baloo's children's series 'La Mission Infernale' was originally created for a fanzine, but eventually appeared in two books by Petit à Petit in 2000 and 2004. In 2010 he created a new children's series with writer Tarek, 'Circus', for Idées+, followed by 'Crodur' with Eco for Éditions Physalis. Besides an artist, Baloo is also a productive scriptwriter for his friends. This includes the crime series 'John Doe', that was drawn by Alain Henriet and published by Multi Concepts in 1996, and later as a trilogy by Delcourt. Other projects are 'Les Couzes' with Jürg (Emmanuel Proust Editions, 2004), 'Las Chicas' with Jean-Philippe Kalonji (Emmanuel Proust Editions, 2004), and several gag strips for 'The Smurfs' by Studio Peyo. He is additionally a colorist for series like 'Les Pixels' and 'Hercule Poirot', and an author and illustrator of children's books. Text (c) Lambiek
