Africa Dreams

Frédéric Bihel was born in the Upper Normandy city of Evreux. He made his debut as a comic artist in the magazine Hello Bédé with stories like 'La Quête de la Fille aux Cheveux d'Or' (1990) and 'Le Novice' (1992), both in cooperation with scriptwriter Xavier Josset. Bihel was then a regular artist for the children's publications of Bayard Presse, including Youpi, Point de Repère, Prions and Eglise Junior before Didier Convard and Éditions Glénat hired him to take over the artwork of the series 'Les Héritiers du Soleil' in 1994. He drew the series from scripts by Convard and later Thomas Mosdi and then wrote and drew the final installment of this comic about ancient Egypt himself in 2002. He continued his collaboration with Josset for the children's book 'Lionne au Village' (1998) and the heroic fantasy series 'Malienda' (2001-2003), that was written by Josset in cooperation with Mosdi. His next project was the biblical series 'Le Secret de l'Arche' in cooperation with theologist and philosopher Frère Samuel (Glénat, 2004-2006). His first collaboration with Jean-François and Maryse Charles was a comics biography of the Afghan military leader Massoud for the Casterman series 'Rebelles' in 2006. The team continued with 'Africa Dreams', a series about 19th century Belgian Congo, published by Casterman since 2010. Text (c) Lambiek
