Description
Two-Gun Mickey (1932-1934). Dessin d'animation couleur 1933 ou 1934.
Comment
"It was all started by a mouse." (Walt Disney)
An original production layout, depicting Mickey Mouse, for an animated short film (Two-Gun Mickey) released on 15-12-1934. Colored pencil on watermarked production paper (Management Bond Hammermill Product). A small piece of history from 1934; Mickey is a great full-figure image of 4 x 7cm.
This short is considered one of Mickey's greatest films. It also starred Minnie Mouse and Bandit Peg-Leg Pete and was directed by Ben Sharpsteen (Pinocchio, Dumbo).
The Disney Studio was a "crazy house", where space was limited and everyone was constantly changing places, but given the quality of the animated drawing, it could well be pencilled by Les Clark. He was part of the inner circle of Disney animators, known as the "Nine Old Men".
Les Clark joined Disney in 1927. His specialty was animating Mickey Mouse as he was the only one of the "Nine Old Men" to work on that character from its origins with Ub Iwerks.
On the photograph : Disney's Nine Old Men. From left to right:
Back row: Milt Kahl, Marc Davis, Frank Thomas, Eric Larson, and Ollie Johnston.
Front row: Wolfgang Reitherman, Les Clark, Ward Kimball, and John Lounsbery.
