Description

My most meaningful and significant piece of 2022. In the year of the 40th anniversary of the Love and Rockets #1 release at Fantagraphics, this piece came up at auction and was instantly a must win.

To me, this is the beginning of the Locas saga and the explosive entrance to the world of the greatest cartoonist of modern times, Jaime Hernandez. This story had it all, with his hand lettered, epistolary format, and a focus on Maggie who's story he's told over the following 4 decades. Rockets, dinosaurs, third world dictatorships, wrestling, romance and drama...He threw in the kitchen sink and hasn't looked back. Jaime's art has evolved and simplified over time but that doesn't mean it's gotten worse. He's only improved and leveled up to legendary status, and this is the genesis of that. Jaime putting everything into his first full length feature story.

Jaime' s Locas is an epic that readers are discovering all the time and yet still one of the most underrated stories in comics today. Probably because Jaime has been steadily producing for so long. When all is said and done, and it is all finished and collected, there is no doubt it will be considered the pinnacle of comics and should be up there with any of the great epic stories of all time in any medium.

Truly an honor to be able to own this piece of history and still in disbelief that it's in my collection.
